Is it possible hugely complex perspectives can exist in the magnetic interactions between molecules, between heat transfer in the sun, in light orbitting a black hole... Where-ever infinitely complex changes occur, the interactions may well occur on a minute scale and last for a fraction of a second from our perspective, but the complexity of the occurance could be as complex as the movements and interactions between all the forces and matter from our perspective.
For all we know molecules are just interactions between 2 fields or some other interaction from another perspective. A hypothetical being from that perspective could stick a needle into our "universe" and to us it would seem like a 20 dimensional explosion that contorts our existence. Likewise we could take 2 magnets and put them next to each other and the interactions between the fields could create a new universe in which beings in this perspective travel light "years" (their "years" would be an infinitely tiny amount of time compared to our perspective) to a nearby electron of an air molecule, but consisting of electric disturbances, be unable to determine it having the property of matter. They may perhaps even be able to map out the entire human body, but only be able to extract a small amount of energy and unable to affect electric currents in your brain or whatever.
Sky isn't the limit, this is hypothetical. Is the universe infinitely complex? I don't think sentience is dependant on there being one object which never changes, it appears that sentience is simply a set of continuing calculations which occur regardless of the material used.
