Why do people believe in miracles?

Name: Anonymous 2006-08-12 21:25

If you believe in miracles, that must mean you beleive in a higher power. A higher power who is obviously helping some people through the workings of these miracles.

But this means that, since the higher power is able to help people, that he just lets hundreds of thousands of people die every year due to natural disasters, famine, war, disease, etc, just because, while favoring those who believe in miracles.

How do Christians and other religious people allow themselves to believe this? The idea that there is a god who readilly helps certain people, while letting thousands of innocents die is insane.

This must mean that followers of religion and believers in miracles are either too dumb to realize this, or that they just flat out do not care, which would probably send them to hell in their religion anyway.

Well, some people believe that miracles WILL happen to anyone with faith who prays for them. So millions of people may not have been 'saved' yet, and thus they must (on their own) develop a faith in God. God wouldn't preform a miracle for just anyone, because it would be like destroying their free will in choosing whether they believe in a God or not. If everyone has miracles happen to them, then everyone believes in a God, and there goes Gods entire 'test'

Also, I think it is important to mention that despite what you hear, most Christians believe that God has some element of wrath to him, and as such he doesn't HAVE to help everyone. Remember, he's pretty pissed from the whole Adam and Eve thing.
