Gravity

Name: Anonymous 2006-07-21 15:29

Gravity is caused by rotation of large objects.  Mass alone does cause gravity, but an object of large mass and surface area will cause gravity based on the speed of its rotation generating force.  This gravity will affect other bodies in space, causing moons and asteroids to rotate and orbit, which create their own less powerful gravity due to the smaller size of these objects.  Multiple small objects could form a loose surface area with some gravity generated from their speed and rotation.

The Earth's gravity is not caused by a "spinning molten core," but by the rotation of the entire mass of earth causing gravitational force based on the size of its surface area.

Absense of rotation equals zero gravity.  If the Earth stopped rotating, we would all start floating towards space.

>Newton is graveitating in his fucking dirt turbine right now.

Name: Anonymous 2006-07-22 11:42

Newton stated objects are attracted to each other, and objects of greater mass attract each other more than objects of less mass.  Why should we still believe this?  Science should have a better theory after all these years, especially with the limited knowledge Newton had in his day.

Objects don't attract other objects because they have more or less mass.  People do not get sucked in to buildings or mountains, nor do smaller creatures or objects.  Gravity is not caused by just mass itself.  Gravity is a rotational force, caused by rotation times mass.  Something has to generate gravitational force, it can't just cause gravity due to greater mass with no movement.  Fission also generates gravitational force.

The so called "laws" of gravity need to go back to being theories, because someday they will be replaced by a better theory.  Accepting them as true due to the infallible word of Newton is flawed and dangerous.  Science has learned far more about physics since the days of Newton.

Yeah, but if 20 people respond and type 0.05 as much as the OP then the troll wins, so the thread ends here.

Name: Anonymous 2006-07-22 14:08

You know, the guy who came up with quantum mechanics was a troll.

Name: Anonymous 2006-07-22 14:17

Galileo was a troll to the Catholic church, what's your point?

Name: Anonymous 2006-07-22 14:41

Just because a theory goes against your preconceived notions of infallible laws, doesn't mean you should dismiss it because the laws "say so."  I'm rejecting Newton's statement that objects of greater mass are attracted to each other.  Prove or disprove otherwise.

Name: Anonymous 2006-07-22 15:27

>>12
No, the catholic church was a troll to galileo.

Name: Anonymous 2006-07-22 19:20

The Catholic Church was the established body of knowledge at the time, just as your Newtonian physics are now.  The idea of objects being attracted to each other "just because" is naive, ignorant, and absurd.  What causes this invisible force that remains such a mystery?  If there is such as force, called gravity, it needs to be generated by something.  Standing still = no output, therefore gravity is not a result of mass alone.  But if that mass is moving, then it can generate force.  That force is gravity.

Name: Anonymous 2006-07-22 19:59

>>15
No, the idea that you don't need proof to back up your assertions is naive, ignorant and absurd. Newton could observe the phenomena of gravity and note down it's qualities, he also never claimed that gravity occurred outside the range of accuracy he could achieve. You have observed nothing to suggest you are correct and claim it applies everywhere.

Name: Anonymous 2006-07-22 20:24

>>1 FAIL.

A scientific law attempts to explain what happens in a given phenomena so that experiments can be conducted.

Newton stated objects are attracted to each other, and
objects of greater mass attract each other more than objects > of less mass.
A law is always true once it is correct.

You are dealing with gravity theory. A scientific theory attempts to explain how a phenomena occurs; theories, once proven to be true, are then scientific fact.

Gravity affects other bodies in space such as the Earth's gravity on the moon, and the moon's gravity on Earth.  Newton studied alchemy, and believed invisible forces affected the physical world.  Scientists have simply accepted the idea that mass = gravitational force.  We can measure the strength of this force and how far it extends in to space, because we are seeing the results of gravity.  The cause of gravity is still an assumption.

Take your own advice, jackwad.  In science, a theory is a well-tested model for explaining events and predicting what will happen in experiment.  At best, "string theory" is a hypothesis.

I can't tell who's trolling and who's not anymore.

Free particles outside of atoms, like free leptons, do have mass. A particle does not need to be bound to an atom to gravitate.

Anyway take the shit to the Uncyclopedia or something. This thread is so fucked up.

Name: Anonymous 2006-07-27 20:46

Well, what about light?

In reality, light has mass and can be affected by gravity. BUT, light does not rotate!

Why?

Because light does not rotate, it does no exert gravity. But since it is matter, it is still affected by the gravity of other things. Hence why light can bend into a black hole, but light waves do not cluster together in their travel between galaxies. (as they should if they exerted gravitational force)

Light does not have mass. It does not exert gravity because it does not have mass. It is affected by gravity because of the curvature of space. Rotation has nothing whatsoever to do with gravitational attraction of any kind. I hate trolls. Fuck this stupid discussion.

If light doesn't have mass, then how come we can have solar sails, hmmmmmm? Didn't think about that, did you?

Because it has momentum.

>>45
It does not exert gravity because it does not have mass.
Light has energy and momentum. Therefore it still deforms spacetime (aka 'exerts gravity').

ah ah ah, can't have momentum without mass! If it has mass, it should exert gravitational force! But it doesn't.....

Because it doesn't rotate!

the more mass something has, the more momentum it has when moving at the same speed.

The relativistic total energy is E^2 = p^2 c^2 + m^2 c^4. Light has energy but no mass, hence it has momentum.

Let's go back and address the spinning retard theory.  I think this theory shows promise.  For example, if you start spinning around, you get dizzy and fall over.  Also incorporating Newton's 4th law (two bodies in motion create white lotion), you have now plenty of inspiration for weeaboo art.  Thus many ideas have just gravitated together.  This is the new scientific paradigm of reality.  If you continue reading this, you just lost one braincell that could have been committed elsewhere.  You are a retard.

You are a retard.
