First some background. Chimerism, while observed for years in the animal kingdom, has only recently been getting attention as a human possibility. Surprisingly, some of us contain cells of two genetically distinct beings that have fused as blastocysts into a single embryo. When a male and female fusion takes place, the result can be hermaphroditic individual with distinct sets of male and female genetalia.
Oprah has long been suspected of being a man, but even those suspicions pale when compared to the truth, that Oprah is both a woman and a man, or more accurately is a being with cells that are genetically those of a male and other cells that are genetically those of a female.
The discovery was made through extensive genetic testing for a PBS Black History Month special mini series on the ancestry of several African Americans. Oprah, by the way, was unlike most of the other participants in that she had no genetic markers for any Caucasian ancestry at all, consisting pricipally of Negroid background.
