What is the etymology of Nigger.

Did the word Nigger come from the country's name Niger. It's possible since Niger is full of Niggers.

I think it came from the fact they smell.

When European adventurers went to Africa, hey said "This is full of niggers", so after they started naming them, there were so many tribes and they ran out of names for them, so they started coming up with funny names like Nigeria or Niger. There even was a country (now absorbed by another) that was called Nigra.
