Since humans are carbon-based, could I just eat carbon instead of eating food? If not, how about something purer in carbon than your average piece of bread, like bark?
Also, what's the most edible carbon food?

you know, you DO need more than just carbon...y'know, amino acids, water, minerals, etc...
Unfortunately for us, most if not all living creatures have evolved in order to utilize certain common elements and compounds in their diet. For instance, humans need a VERY small amount of arsenic to function properly. I'm not sure, but I think it has something to do with the electrical impulses from the brain and through the nerves.
A more common and well known example is water (2H + O [fucking subscripts]). As far as I know, all living creatures need some form of water.
Remember, humans are carbon-BASED. Just because they are based on carbon does not mean that they can just eat pure carbon.
Just for clarification, foods ARE mostly carbon, just different forms of it. CARBOhydrates = 1 carbon, 2 hydrogen, 1 oxygen.
Hell, if it were a perfect world we wouldn't have to eat. We could just breathe in carbondioxide and hydrogen, and reform it into carbohydrates, oxygen, and water.

By the way, bark wouldn't do much for you. Seeing as it's mostly composed of dietary fiber, and humans have evolved out of the ability to digest dietary fiber, it would just pass through your system giving you relatively little carbon or nutrients to work with.

carbon monoxide is infinitely better for you than natural air.
