Negetive Acceleration?

Name: Anonymous 2006-01-11 1:41

What does it happen when an object have a negetive acceleration? And is it possible to have a negetive acceleration?

Name: Anonymous 2006-01-11 1:46

btw, in this thread
- A car moving backwards is not counted as having negetive acceleration because it still accelerates.
- A car that is slowing down is still counted as having negetive acceleration, but thats not what i want to know.

no, obviously, if you define a=|a|, then it can't be negative. dumbass

A negative acceleration is just an acceleration in the opposite direction. Which could really be in any direction, since it is up to you to define forward, and acceleration is a vector so signs only mean a difference in direction.

Say a car was moving forwards, with no acceleration, just constant velocity, a negative acceleration would slow it down, because the velocity would be changing the same as the acceleration i.e. backwards, and then once the speed was 0, the car will speed up but backwards.

Not much strange about that.

Now, negative mass, thats weird.

Sage for OP being a fucking dumbass.

o i get it. if a car moving backwards is not negative acceleration then a=|a|

Name: Anonymous 2006-01-12 6:39

negative acceleration = deceleration.

Name: Anonymous 2006-01-12 6:39

Or, more technically, acceleration in the opposite direction.

Name: Anonymous 2006-01-12 12:32 (sage)

OP is seriously confused.

Negative acceleration means what it means, and >>13 is 100% correct. You can't just ask "what does x mean", and then add "but I don't want to hear: <meaning of x>".

This thread should have ended with >>3 's reply.

If you're OP, you're a fucktard and you deserve to die.
If you're not OP, you're still a fucktard and you deserve to die.
Hang yourself now.

acceleration is a change in velocity. Velocity is speed and direction, so acceleration has a direction. negative accelartion = opposite direction

I'll just repeat what a bunch of posts have already said

You are a fucking idiot if you don't realize that acceleration is a vector.
