File this under speculative for now, but details have emerged about a patent Sony was granted back in 2003.  The technology, which admittedly is decades away from realization*, will stimulate the neural cortex with low-frequency pulses, in turn, producing sensations like sights, tastes, and sounds.  Matrix-enthusiasts take note: no implants involved.  Bottom line is, don�t expect Sony to be unveiling this technology alongside the PS3 next month

Interesting, but I don't see how they can be granted a patent for something they don't know how to realize yet.  I think we're still quite far from understanding how the brain works.
