Hi,
I want to learn(I already know the basics of both) either C# or Java. But I don't know which. So /prog/ please compare the two language for me. Language features/how well it is designed/etc. are the things which interest me.

Java is listed as the top programming language sought after for jobs for 2014. Java is used in everything, factory machines, cars, atms, computers, phones, kindle... etc... Go with Java.

They're both shit but Java is the lesser of the two evils because it can actually run properly on linux, unlike 99% of programs written in C#
C# is superior to java in every way. Linux is unimportant, really - it's presence on the desktop is so vanishingly small it may as well not exist. Nothing you write to run on a server is going to be in java (probably not C# either unless you work for MS, but you are the one who choose the two options).

Now that's an outright lie.

Okay, JSP does exist, but only IBM will ever recommend using it.

Solaris contains lots of java programs, and it's not used all that much as a desktop OS.

A good programmer (not working for some soul-crushing sub-sub-sub-contractor and living in fear of having to train some towelhead replacement next week) might go his entire career without seeing anything except Oracle DB or Peoplesoft. They run like Cisco in that it is sold along side expensive service contracts where they do everything for you.

I still don't understand how it's possible to make a living by programming. It's an abstract form of art, how can you make a living by art?
