Why doesn't anyone write real documentation anymore? Why are people smart enough to be programmers stupid enough to think that taking a 45 minute video of screen while doing a simple task is a good idea? Is this the future of programming? A bunch of idiots posting shit on youtube? Why don't they just invent a fucking language for use in the facebook text box and be done with it.

I kind of agree with you.
Just individual learning preference really. Some people can't into reading books or documentation.

I thought facebook already supported the ultimate in programming languages BBCode.

And yet they want to do work in a primarily text based field? They will never be any good if they can't even digest a book. How will these people find things for reference? StackOverflow can't spoon feed everything.

I've never actually used Facebook to tell the truth. My only MySpace friend, Tom, isn't on there and it would just e embarrassing to have no friends.

I feel the same, OP. Written documentation is clearly superior to videos because:
- it's much easier to find exactly the spot you need;
- it's easier to read in arbitrary order;
- it's easier to skim through and decide if there's anything interesting in there for you at all;
- you don't have to put up with possibly shitty voice/pronunciation/accent/video quality;
- it's possible to adjust the visual style: fonts, colors, etc.

The idea of video tutorials isn't bad. It's just that the quality of them makes me puke. And they're made by people who hardly understand the language them selves. You never see a guy with actual experience making them.
The people who watch them also think that just watching a video will make them an expert.
Something like Codecademy is much better because it actually makes people think. To bad they're aimed at my tech illiterate little sister.
