How to teach yourself programming?

Hey everyone. First time posting here. I am after pursuing a career in programming and I want to start by learning Java.
What do you reckon it's the best way to go, considering I'm still 2 years away from Uni. Books, tutos, online stuff?
I also want to learn PHP, C++ and MySQL in the future.

Start with Codeacademy. All languages are pretty much the same, and this will help you get started learning a language without having to download an IDE or some shit, and each exercise is interactive so you get immediate feedback. Choose a language on the site and stick with it to the end of the course.
