How to teach yourself programming?

Name: Anonymous 2014-02-17 23:44

Hey everyone. First time posting here. I am after pursuing a career in programming and I want to start by learning Java.
What do you reckon it's the best way to go, considering I'm still 2 years away from Uni. Books, tutos, online stuff?
I also want to learn PHP, C++ and MySQL in the future.
Thank you all very much.

Thenewboston is horrible for people just starting out. His videos keep you motivated, but they dont teach you jack shit. Honestly, I was in your shoes about 6 years ago. My best advice, is to not start with Java. It is a complex language that is hard to learn if your just starting out, its even harder to master. It is a great language though. Even if you dont want to use it ever, learn VB. There is tons of material out there to help you through, and its very easy to learn the concepts of programming. If you arent into VB, try python.
