Why has 4chan even a text board?

I mean, it's not like an image board takes up like 40 more servers. OK, it's PHP based, but it's still not that bad.
Any historical reasons, folks?
Also, why does it use a different look?

The historical reason is that 4chan is based on a Japanese image board (2chan.net) that was based on a Japanese text board (2ch.net).
