CFBI2LI

To me, the most critical thing in the C market right now is the lack of culturally supportive books for Indians. Without Indian books and an Indian student, the C language is wasted. Will culturally supporitve books be written for Indians?

Almost a year ago, Yashavant Kanetkar and Ganesha, expecting the Indian student-base to expand, designed and wrote "Let Us C". Though the initial work took only two months, the two of them spent most of the last year rewriting and improving "Let Us C". They now have many revisions which are all available around the globe.

The feedback they received from Indians who say they are reading "Let Us C" has all been positive. Two surpising things are apparent, however. 1) Most of these Indians have been using disgusting compilers, developed by AMERICAN authors, that haven't been updated since nineteen-ninety-fuck, and 2) The amount of culture passed on to these Indians, through the reading of this book, is close to zero.

Why is this? As the maj ority of Indian C Programmers must be aware, none of you carry your Indian heritage with you as you write C programs. Your religion is something to be proud of but your programming culture is something to ignore.  Who cares if we all forget about the great Indian programmers like Yashavant Kanetkar?

CFBI2LI, which stands for "C: From Big Indian to Little Indian", is the name for the Indian C reference which I am writing so that Indians can learn C in their native style. Several volunteers are helping me. Contributions of time, money, and equipment are greatly needed.

CFBI2LI will be similar to "Let Us C", but it will not be identical to "Let Us C". We will make all the improvements that are convenient, based on our experience with Indian culture. In particular, we plan on passing knowledge to the Indian student in the way that is natural for them: The older, bigger Indian will pass the knowledge onto the younger, smaller Indian, and we also plan on developing our own C compiler which will respect the Indian style of programming with C.

CFBI2LI is aimed initially at male Indians who are studying at universities at India, because they are the most interested in Indian culture. The extra effort to make it available to other groups will be left to whoever is interested in Indian culture.

CFBI2LI will not be released into the public domain. Everybody will be permitted to modify and redistribute CFBI2LI, but no distributor will be allowed to make changes that aren't in compliance with the reference's native Indian heritage. That is to say, AMERICAN modifications will not be allowed. I want to make sure that all versions of CFBI2LI include the bit of culture that many Indians lack when they write C programs.

I would appreciate letters from any one who wants to help with CFBI2LI, or has a suggestion or comment. Just write me at ganesha@kicit.com. Nothing would please me more than being able to hire ten Indian professionals and deluge Indian universities with copies of CFBI2LI.
