They stink because they live in homes where women cook highly aromatic food with oils and spices. Eventually all their clothes end up smelling like it but they don't realize it because they're so used to it.
They're not shitty programmers, they're just not creative or innovative. A lot of programming jobs are being shipped to India, but those are ones that involve little decision making.
