Atheism is a religion for miserable fools

Name: Anonymous 2013-09-26 11:21

The most common problem atheists have is in their confusing God with "religion". God is not religion, and religion is not God. In fact, atheists are some of the most fanatically religious people on the planet. Their religion is one of the most rigid and exclusionary of all religions, as they regularly demonize, shun, and disparage all others who do not abide by the tenents of their belief systems and practices.

Religion is not simply a set of beliefs in a supernatural power, but is a rigid code of ethics and philosophy, based upon a specific system of belief, practices, or values even resembling, or suggestive of such a system of belief. Atheists often complain about others "pushing" their religious beliefs upon them, yet are some of the pushiest people on the planet when it comes to their own belief system, which they often promote quite religiously.

Here's a little food for thought . . .

What is time? What is its nature? When did time begin? What happened before that?

How big is outer space? Where does it end? When you get to the end of outer space, what's on the other side?

If you atheists are not wise enough to answer these questions fully and accurately, then you are certainly not wise enough to positively and unequivocally make the great and final pronouncement upon the eternal question of whether God does, or does not, in fact, exist.

Here's an interesting video on the subject:

Death to Religionists!
Anyone who converts from Atheism should be beheaded to serve an example for infidels.
Atheism will dominate the world. Degenerate middle-eastern cults have no chance.

If God is so great and powerful, then why hasn't he found a way to exist yet?

Name: Anonymous 2013-09-26 12:22

Atheists seem to have a penchant for grand, and all encompassing
pronouncements. You know, people with small minds often like to reduce complex issues down to a question of black and white, left or right, either/or, and all or nothing. It seems to comfort them in a way perhaps best described as mental masturbation.

They purport to offer "proof" . . . either that "God does not exist", or that some people invent, or hold on to odd, and sometimes bizarre beliefs about the nature, purpose, and existence of God.

In the former case, I would have to say that they are raving lunatics with delusions of grandeur, for no mere human on earth has either the knowledge, wisdom, or ability, to make such a pronouncement upon that eternal question. In the latter case, however, I would tend to agree with them . . . as long as they also include atheists in their list of people who invent, or hold on to odd, and sometimes bizarre beliefs about the nature, purpose and existence of God.

You can't choose what you are, monkey-boy. Deluding yourself isn't going to help.

I don't get it, people think monkeys are some kind of "non-human" abomination, while in fact they're genetically closets organism to humans. We are in fact a species of apes. Advanced technologically, perhaps somewhat mentally superior, but on the inside we're monkeys. Monkeys driven by monkey instincts, desires and emotions. You can't drive out the monkey, you just hide it very well.
The thing that keeps us from "monkey behavior" is the culture and relative prosperity. Remove one or the other and we turn back into what we're originally. Hairless monkeys.
Read the stories about feral children. Thats what we're at the core.

I used to think I was an atheist, but nowadays I'm leaning more-towards [permanent] agnosticism.

Agnosticism, because I've realized there is no way to ultimately prove or disprove... anything, really. God, and "science," both hinge on faith.

It's arguable as to whether He has left humanity with any proof that He exists. You could say that certain biblical stories prove it, but you could also just as easily choose not to believe those stories. And since you weren't alive 2000 years ago to witness the proclaimed "miracles," it's impossible to know if they actually occurred or not; you have to take it on faith (or not).

If you ask yourself where the universe came from, that is also impossible to know for sure. Humans can never know, with absolute certainty, that there is some undetectable, omniscient force that created the universe; by definition, its existence can neither be proven nor dis-proven. So, you have to take it on faith.

On a similar note, you have to take scientific theories on faith, because there is always a theoretical, infinitely-large amount of information that we are missing.

In philosophy, eventually you realize that objective truth/falsity is impossible for humans to achieve. We can only accept little "truths," like "the grass is green," on faith; we believe our sensory organs, but who knows whether they are actually telling us the truth? Similarly, our society tells us that God exists. Why believe them? A few reasons: overwhelming evidence in the form of: What they say (ears), the "miraculous" world we live in (eyes) or through an the "inherent sense we have of God's presence" (brain, or actual conversion experience [brain... or your soul...]). But what if your sensory organs are wrong, or people don't actually have souls? You must consider those possibilities. Thus, "science," and God, hinge on faith.

Both atheism and religion have their advantages and disadvantages. But, to "choose either side" means that you will claim your BELIEFS to be "true," when it reality these BELIEFS just hinge on faith. So, in this sense, I find agnosticism to provide a more objective viewpoint, and serve as a better lens to observe the world. It would be just as ignorant to declare that God /doesn't/ exist, as it would be to declare that he /does/.

Deep down, you might not be worried about "getting into heaven or hell," but to admonish someone for believing in the existence of such places would be ignorant.

Of course, applying agnosticism to everyday life will make living quite difficult. Ultimately you will need to make decisions about certain things, and the decisions you make will probably hinge on faith (which seems "agnostically-hypocritical"). I suppose that the "agnostic" thing to do, would be, to be willing to admit that the decisions you make hinge on faith, and that there may always be an alternative decision that may hinge on an alternative faith, which is just as "valid" as the decision you made previously. So, I believe it is still possible to live agnostically.

And while, I hate to admit it (but, in order to not seem hypocritical, I must), everything I just said also hinges on faith. Fun, right? So I wonder whether all the motions I just went through were nothing more than what >>5 referred to as "mental masturbation." For now I'll say... MAYBE.

Also:

I'm now suspicious as to whether what I've described really is "agnosticism," because I've already admitted that avoiding faith in all aspects of life is self-imposed brain fuckery. We will always have to resort back to our faith in certain "basic facts," in order to get through the day. In the scope of religion/atheism, I believe "unwillingness to accept either as absolute fact" may be a correct description, but when applied to other aspects of life, agnosticism quickly becomes problematic. I guess what I'm advocating is that "you may use faith to make decisions that you believe in, but you must be willing to concede to the faith of others [possibly, in consideration that they will do the same to you]." This may be an alternative, more humanly-attainable/realistic standard for "agnosticism."

I also forgot to mention the supposed benefits of agnosticism. When people decide to be either religious, or atheistic, this often results in them being completely shut-out from the teachings of the other side.

Pick-and-choose passages from the bible, or any other religious work, and you may actually find some good advice. But if you were religious, you would be bound to a deity, and also might struggle with certain "moral" restrictions, like decrees against homosexuality.

If you are atheistic, you are unlikely to ever touch a bible and thus won't be able to reap any of the benefits that religion might offer. Or, an atheist could extract some value from religious philosophy (detached, of course, from his belief in God), but he would still be an ignorant fool when he sits in a corner laughing at religious folk, because his belief in the "religion of science" is just as faith-based as his Christian "underlings."

But if you're agnostic, then you can get the best of both worlds, and avoid being ignorant or [too] hypocritical.

Theism = belief in god
Atheism = !(belief in god)
Antitheism = belief in !(god)

/a?gnosticism/ pertains to whether or not you believe the supernatural to ever be knowable one way or the other. It does not mean you're not an atheist and it does not mean you're not a theist.

Exodus 20:1-17 (King James Version)

Exodus 20

1 And God spake all these words, saying,

2 I am the LORD thy God, which have brought thee
out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.
3 Thou shalt have no other gods before me.

4 Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image,
or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above,
or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the
     water under the earth.

5 Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve
them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God,
visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children
     unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me;
6 And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that
love me, and keep my commandments.

7 Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy
God in vain; for the LORD will not hold him guiltless
that taketh his name in vain.

8 Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.
9 Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work:
10  But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD
thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou,
nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant,
nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle,
nor thy stranger that is within thy gates:
11 For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth,
the sea, and all that in them is,
      and rested the seventh day:
wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day,
      and hallowed it.

12 Honour thy father and thy mother:
that thy days may be long upon the land which
the LORD thy God giveth thee.

  13 Thou shalt not kill.

14 Thou shalt not commit adultery.

  15 Thou shalt not steal.

16 Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy
      neighbour.

17 Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's house,
thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's wife,
nor his manservant, nor his maidservant,
nor his ox, nor his ass,
nor any thing that is thy neighbour's.

These are Ten Commandments given on Mount Horeb in desert Sinai.
These are Holy Land and also important to Christian faith.

IN Jehovah of hosts holy name, Lord Jesus Christ (The Rock) holy name, and Holy Spirit of God holy name.
Amen.

Don't change these.
