MitsubaBBS - FOSS imageboard software, alternative to the defunct Futaba clones and Tinyboard, and actually getting commits, unlike the aforementioned imageboard variants
https://github.com/MitsubaBBS/Mitsuba

Just to clarify: I mean OSS as in FOSS.

Why would I want software that isn't finished yet?

People have claimed to have been testing it on free hosts and such but I haven't come across any in my searches.

I'm tempted to give it a whirl myself.

SOFTWARE IS NEVER FINISHED YA FUCKIN RETOID. UR LIKE DA SHITTY FATHER WHO ABANDONS HIS KIDS CUZ HE CAN'T FUCKIN PROVIDE FOR 'EM. EVEN DA SMALLEST OF PROGRAMS NEED 2 BE MAINTAINED.

I wrote a 4chan imageboard clone some time ago.
Actually a few years earlier I wrote a shiichan clone too.
Man, I'm really obsessed with this shitty website.

That mentality is what's retarded, aside from bug fixes, not all software needs to be worked on continuously. An imageboard is not complicated software, take Wakaba as an example, it implements all the basic functionally required and is essentially a finished product.

Name: Anonymous 2013-09-23 10:00

>>12
Yeah, it's also stock full of potential exploits that nobody is fixing.

I'M TALKIN ABOUT KEEPIN' PROGRAMS UP TO DATE. LIBRARIES BECOME UNSUPPORTED, PROGRAMMING LANGUAGES DIE OUT, OLD CONVENTIONS GET REPLACED WITH NEW ONES. U CUD WRITE A WHOLE BOOK ON SOFTWARE DEVELOPMENT METHODOLOGY (AND A BUNCH OF RETOIDS HAVE SPEWED DAT SAME KINDA SHIT OVER THOUSANDS OF PAGES OF SHIT-STAINED CRAP (TAKE ERIC RAYMOND AND DAT FAGGOT WHO WROTE DA MYTHICAL MAN MONTH FOR INSTANCE)) BUT I AIN'T FUCKIN GOIN TO DO DAT HERE. POINT IS, A GOOD PROGRAMMER KEEPS DER PROGRAMS ALIVE AND WORKING, AND A SHITTY ONE ABANDONS IT. TAKE DEANIS FUCKIN RICKY FOR EXAMPLE. DIED A COUPLE YEARS AGO AND HE STILL MAINTAINS HIS CODE. HELL OF A GUY.

take Wakaba as an example
WAT R U, SUM KINDA JAPANIMATION TOOHOOHOO KAWAII SAFARI POOPOOPOOPOO MAGARII RETOID?

it implements all the basic functionally required and is essentially a finished product.
WAT R U, SUM KINDA CORPORATE BUSINESS BOI?

The key word here being ``potential'', how can you fix something that may or may not exist?

Name: Anonymous 2013-09-23 10:23

Would a corporate boi be arguing that software doesn't need to be revised endlessly?

I have programs still in use where I haven't touched the source in over a decade. You know why? Because they work as intended and don't suffer from feeping creatures.

By potential, I mean KNOWN EXPLOITS THAT PEOPLE COULD POTENTIALLY USE. Oh and none of the exploits will be fixed unless you patch it privately.

By potential, I mean KNOWN EXPLOITS
If they're known then that will be a bug fix.

patch it privately
Why would a critical patch be kept unreleased?

i know people hate ruby, but...

https://github.com/zenkalia/rubystein
^ wolfenstein engine written in ruby.  uses gosu, i haven't had time to work on it recently, but that's because i have closed source projects i care about more right now.

https://github.com/zenkalia/dank
^ ruby tagging library, optimized for suggestions and calculating distances between tag sets rather than for browsing, which is why it uses redis.  a normal relational database would be the right way to do a tagging with traditional browsing features.

I didn't say they were frozen to the point where they could never be worked on, read >>12 again, see where it says ``bug fixes''?

Going back to my Wakaba example (which I just mentioned as something to contrast against >>2), but it fits my point here. There was an arbitrary HTML injection exploit a while back (I just embedded a couple autoplaying youtubes on desu and saovq), and even though WAHa hadn't worked on it for a number of years, a new version was released within a day or so.

Name: Anonymous 2013-09-24 1:33

It needs more than bug fixes. As it is people prefer using Tinyboard, which is a bad thing.
