Linux for the desktop is simply not worth it

Name: Anonymous 2013-09-17 17:13

As a server, or on the command line, it's great. But the desktop experience is just tiresome.

For every problem, there are a dozen solutions online. And it's not as if you simply look for the problem occurring on your distro because even the same distro on two different machines may require different solutions. So you try them one by one.

These may involve hacking configuration files, downloading apps, or even writing scripts to reset settings every time your machine returns from suspension.

And the crazy thing is, despite the wide adoption of linux in the server and mobile world, the desktop guys just carry on like this is all normal. That constant compromise and tinkering is part of the experience.

I really wanted to make Linux desktop work because so many of my development libraries are made for linux. But I'm going back to my original linux server running in virtualbox setup.
