It's a good attempt to solve the issues that Java has with modular programming. However, there are few introductionary resources; you're all on your own there. IDE support is also few and far inbetween.

Because Java is so widespread in enterprise environments. Despite Java being terrible in many ways, the main demand is there. The other big contester is C#/.NET, which fails to get a foot in open source shops because of Mono.
