Network Printer Web Servers

Name: Anonymous 2013-07-13 12:02

So a lot of network printers come equipped with out-of-the-box proprietary web servers for finding out info on the status of the printer, printing test pages, etc. I was wondering if anyone has ever tried turning one into a XAMPP server which can do more than just display printer-related information.

There's DD-WRT for routers. Surely there's some sort of 3rd party firmware for network printers with web servers, right?

Do you even read the links you post? That's just instructions on how to use the default web server, which can't really do much of anything aside from displaying printer information. I want to turn a network printer with a built-in web server into a XAMPP server. Can't do that with default firmware.

The with which printer? You need specifications, so you can get in to the hard drive, and install the other components you want: Dumb Apache, MySQL, PHP & PEAR, Perl, ProFTPD, phpMyAdmin, OpenSSL, GD, Freetype2, libjpeg, libpng, gdbm, zlib, expat, Sablotron, libxml, Ming, Webalizer, pdf class, ncurses, mod_perl, FreeTDS, gettext, mcrypt, mhash, eAccelerator, SQLite and IMAP C-Client.

However the easiest method is to to just get another computer to be the XAMMP server, and hook up the printer to it...

The HP Deskjet 6840 doesn't have a hard drive.

You're missing the point entirely! It's all about re-purposing things.

Who the fuck has a printer which is a XAMPP server? Probably nobody, that's who. That's why I want to do this.
