I doubt he has any authority to speak on cryptography

Moreover, numerous discrepancies point that this Snowden is a made-up figure with a fake past to appeal target auditory. First of all being that Snowden looks like a Hollywood actor from the Matrix movie, not your typical neckbeard.

Sure you can probably flatten most computation to O(1) time compelxity.

"Yes, the NSA has the capability to crack anything weaker than SHA-2048 with O(1) complexity."
As a computational complexity theorist, I can confirm that it is possible to crack any hash whose output is less than or equal to 2048 bits in O(1). Or, put more succinctly, ( ≖‿≖).

Let's see.

1. Input Hash to crack S.
2. Enumerate the set of all strings as the list L.
3. Compute the SHA-2048 of the current string in L, as hash H.
4. If H matches S, then return H.
5. Otherwise, proceed to the next element of L and repeat from step 3.

Maybe you missed the news last week.

http://www.wired.com/wiredenterprise/2013/06/d-wave-quantum-computer-usc/

Google has one, the US Airforce has one, and the NSA has several, including the largest one that has 2048 q-bits.

that's cool, my keys are 8192 bit.

Name: Anonymous 2013-07-07 18:50

>>10
And how long will that be of use? In 4-5 more years, they will have 8192 q-bit machines, classified and hidden from the public's view, if they don't already.

Name: Anonymous 2013-07-07 18:51

That's cool, but my secret quantum computer has 8192 q-bits.

long enough for quantum-resistant crypto to surface.

that's pretty cool, I bet you're a hit with the ladies

So quantum computers basically do the computation in parallel?

Then how are they different from normal computers with several CPUs?

Name: Anonymous 2013-07-07 19:04

>>13
You don't seem to understand. If someone logs your encrypted transmission, they just have to wait a few years before they have the technology to brute force it and get the plain text. And since the technology is not public, it could exist today for all you know.

I did. It says:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quantum_superposition
if a physical system may be in one of many configurations — arrangements of particles or fields — then the most general state is a combination of all of these possibilities
So basically a "physical system" has a number of parallel processor, result of which is folded to a single value, like with Lisp's REDUCE function.

Wikipedia is very vague source of information.

Quantum is just a buzzword nowadays. Modern machines that utilize so called quantum processes, are simply using qubits instead of electrons. Yes it is many fold faster (Google bought a server recently using them), however first these systems need to be running at 0K (yes absolute ZERO kelvin), as even slight temp changes causes the sub-atomic particles to gain energy hence change state, hence incorrect results when reading the qubit.

True quantum computers will come about when quantum entanglement is utilized. That will be the day when no current hash is uncrackable. However that being said, by that time, prime numbers will of reached billions of digits as well due to powerful machines. Thus even quantum processes will have trouble dealing with numbers that large in encryption. Even though entanglement theoretically transmits data faster than light, that's not quite true as nothing is actually sent. But it is not instant. As data must still be read, hence it is not an infinite speed, as the act of reading will introduce a time differential.

So when you read on another sites about FTL travel, and 0s process calculations, they are wrong. I have read journal articles in Nature too about similar things, so much bullshit, I am only 21 with a Physics degree and I even I can say these professors are chatting our of their arses.

They don't have to wait! They can easily torture the password out of you.

So if they know about your transmission, then you already fucked up.

Hoax, stupid government entities and corporations getting fooled as usual.

This isn't the cold war anymore, the NSA is a joke now.

If only this is was still pre-1980s, all of these fucks would be getting hanged or fired and google would get absolutely dominated by a peak IBM.

everything is getting worse

It is now a war against own citizens. NSA have to gather and analyze information, so that elites could react accordingly.

This is actually worse. If Murrikan intelligence agencies let themselves become lazy and dumb by over-relying on technology, their country is in really deep shit. Not a-few-exploding-sandniggers-a-year shit (which their media would have you believe are a real threat), but real actual shit.

PhD level math is a joke and has no grounding in reality, much less useful for anything. Just what good does it do the NSA to have a bunch of dweebs who are obsessed with finding the hypervolume of an infinite dimension sphere do? Shit like Graham's number? Nonsense.

NSA is a public make-work program.

Question: Does the NSA cooperate with other states like Israel?

Snowden: Yes, all the time. The NSA has a large section for that, called the FAD - Foreign Affairs Directorate.

Question: Did the NSA help to write the Stuxnet program? (the malicious program used against the Iranian nuclear facilities -- ed.)

Snowden: The NSA and Israel wrote Stuxnet together.

Question: What's your favorite Touhou?
Snowden: I'm really fond of Remilia, but I'd have to say that Marisa is my favorite. I admire how she counterbalances the tyranny of Reimu with her kind, carefree spirit. Reimu is just a bully and a fanatical theocrat, and has been attacking Moriya Shrine, while claiming that she is being attacked by Sanae.
Question: Which Touhou would you program with?
Snowden: Nitori. This needs no explanation.
