Nowadays science is far from the ideals of exploring nature and finding answers to fundamental questions. Nowadays it's more of a routine work: sifting through loads and loads information from peers' papers, buying expensive equipment, doing lots of droning experiments, and the result? In the best case you've corrected the value of some little parameter. But in most cases your work is either a duplication of someone else's, or a dead end.
