I want to do some very light-level stuff in Java, and I think JCreator is well past its prime.
I cobble together a lot of scripts for junk, and I like being able to just hit "compile and run," use my program, quit it, mess with the code, and repeat the process.
So, what does Anonymous recommend?

I'm sorry, but the only permanent solution is Eclipse. You can use NetBeans, though, if you want to be a baby forever.
Don't listen to trolls suggesting text editors; they're too young to actually have a voice in the text editor holy wars.

Does that have anything to do with the topic or is it just your way of saying, "I'ven't read SICP"?

Netbeans has a half-ways decent GUI editor. Otherwise Eclipse. Swing apps are reasonably made by nesting widgets and layouts procedurally anyway.
