I'm reading SICP, learning Scheme, and I want to know

How do I compile code? Where can I get an interpreter? I'm using Linux

Install chicken scheme, then type csi at the command prompt. Alternatively, use mit-scheme. Some people will rush to recommend racket, but don't. Just don't.

Why not racket?

That's what I used, because the redditors-hacker-kikes hipsters who just repeat what they read without knowing any better recommended it. Those people are very impressed with the colorful toy editor, it seems.
I did the exercises (60% of them let's be honest), I had to use 3 differents dialects and hack a lot with that racket shit. If you want everything to work out of the box, follow my advice. You may need racket for the image manipulation exercises though.

Oh and I asked something about the ``super cool /prog/'s choice'' editor on the racket channel on irc. Well, everybody was using emacs. They develop it but don't use it.

emacs
N-no thank you. I'd rather keep to a GUI text edit. Maybe one day, once I decide to ``waste'' a month on learning how to use emacs.
I will stick to chicken then, thanks
