Assuming you're talking about youtube-dl, it simply downloads flvs from youtube. It doesn't really have anything to do with sausages.
Of course it realized that it's behind a great wall of cisco and routes behind some easily available community servers, just for me and just for the community.
If I recall correctly it's written in Python so I assume it just uses some high level library for retrieving the data from web servers. I don't think it's able to 'realise' whether it's behind a great wall of 'cisco'. I don't see how that's relevant to anything either.

Well, for one thing it isn't empty. It's quite useful if you're using a browser that doesn't have a flash plugin since you can just download the flv and play it with whatever media player you want. I assumed that was the position
