You put a whole shitton of details about your life into a computer system. Even if accessible only by your "friends", it is still trivial to socially engineer your way into any non-celebrities friends list and steal this information.

Your only defence is that no-one cares about you enough to do it. Also, please sage your posts so as not to bring shitposting to the attention of the more sensitive and easily-upset members of the board,

I get it. I didn't think social engineering was actually used that much.

OK, let's imagine someone wants your information and they don't use any form of social engineering. While we're setting ourselves a challenge, let's imagine they don't buy it from Facebook either and none of your friends sell you out. Is everyone on your friend's list a responsible enough computer user that you trust them with all of your private information? No? Oh, dear. Hotmail, on the other hand, is probably fine. Microsoft don't exist purely to make money from data mining, Facebook do.

yeah social engineering is a loose definition. I can read your facebook posts for a few weeks and get into most of your accounts with little to no difficulty. It really is the fact that I don't care enough to spend time on any one person that keeps that person safe.

The final solution is to get off fb and twitter, and choose secret questions that really are secure. Also, if a site wants you to organize your password some how (limits on characters used, must have one number, etc) then DO NOT use that site.

safety is simple

No Social Network is safe from Anonymous The Legion. They don't forget! They don't forgive! Expect them!
