So I am going to learn Lisp, what dialect?

I guess Common Lisp should be a good starting point.

What do you hate about Lisp?

Hmm, maybe this is it, I've liked Python so far and in the scripting aspect I suppose that they are similar.

Also, Scheme, is it out of the question?

OP, I strongly recommend Racket scheme, the ide is great, and I really like the idealisms behind scheme. If you want to learn Common Lisp, then make sure you learn ANSI Common Lisp, and read the book titled "ANSI Common Lisp" before you branch out to anything other than SBCL.
