I look for open positions using my local job search engine. Then I send an email with my CV to the companies I think I might like. Some respond. All of the responding ones eventually invite me for a live interview. Of those, only one turned me down (it was the most Google-like company in my country, also a search engine-based business).
My core skills that always get me invited to work are:
1) expert bullshitting,
2) expert bullshitting,
3) looking tidy and professional,
4) knowing a lot of technical terms related to the position (from Wikipedia mostly),
5) expert bullshitting. I am good at bullshitting my way in despite being a complete moron.
So, if you have or can aquire at least 3 out of the 5 skills I have listed, I am sure you will be hired to any position you can reasonably expect to be hired to. Good luck OP.

Bullshit, you say? So, if a company requires Dreamweaver experience, just say that I use it all the time?
