If I meet someone and know they are transsexual or genderqueer (e.g. from the context or setting), what is the appropriate way to find out what sex they were born as and what gender(s) they identify as (if any)?
Is there an accepted protocol? I don't want someone to feel bad because I misjudged their appearance.
