Game AI

Name: Baird !ATI.GearS. 2012-12-11 11:23

I'm doing a presentation for my programming class about Game AI. I'm trying to find some tools specifically implemented in programming for the purpose of programming Game AI.

All I've found thus far is Finite State Machines.

Anyone care to link me to some reading?

A* search algorithm

How about you try and create one yourself? It's the best way to get at the key concepts.

I plan on doing that later this quarter, but the presentation is due Thursday. It only needs to be 10 minutes long, but I want to directly relate it to the class more.

>>2
I'll include that where I talk about Pathfinding.

I... what... you can't find anything on AI? Seriously?
Just play FEAR for the duration of the presentation. It brought forward some innovative AI concepts.

I thought your ``/g/entoomen library'' covered this, /g/-kun.

I've got tons of content already, I'm looking for /specific/ programming functions or language features.

Prolog, Jason, AgentSpeak other inference engines and multi-agent systems come to mind.
But there aren't really specific examples for you because AI is a way of solving problems, not a set of libraries you can just use. Just google what you already know and tag 'implementation' or 'example' on the end, then maybe you're lucky and the source code is readily available.

Okay. The Wikipedia article on Game AI led me to believe that there were certain function brought into programming specifically to allow for easier implementation of AI in the 90's.

AI is a pseudoscience.

u no wut else is a ``pseudosicence'' MY DICK IN UR MOMS BUTT lmao!!

CS is a pseudoscience. It's the only ``science'' involving the study of man-made things (computers).

CS is math for the retarded.

Name: Anonymous 2012-12-11 16:34

>>14
CS isn't a science so there's no point calling it a science. The name is actually a misnomer, just like geometry.

Don't you feel shame about the shit you write?

True CS isn't about computers.

Name: Anonymous 2012-12-11 21:55

It actually has a lot in common with magic.

Name: Anonymous 2012-12-11 21:57

It is not about computers in the same way geometry is not about surveying instruments.

Symta-kun needs to write a SICP-like for Symta.
Not just a reworking of SICP to use Symta, but a book that teaches programming with Symta and valuable life lessons and assorted wisdom, preferably revolving around the exposition of the jewish NWO cabal and the dangers of allowing jews to exist.

That's a good question. As I said, I just went back to school, and I am considering majoring in urban studies and then going on to urban planning, kind of taking whatever I've learned from online communities and trying to adapt that to a physical community.
-- Christopher ``moot'' Poole

I'm sure most of what he's learned will have obvious applications to real-world sewer systems.

Urban planning is important, but majoring in ``urban studies''? What the fuck, moot?

At least major in something actually useful like civil engineering and then minor in urban planning and be a useful member of society.

The thing is, even though planning a city beforehand is important, it's not like you can do anything when all the relevant cities in the modern world are already built. Maybe they could try fixing the collapsing transportation systems in third-world countries, but that's it.

CS is interdisciplinary. and at the core is heavy in EE and Math. I would consider it a science.  It's not man-made. everything inside and out already new it could do that. we are simply discovering.

Name: Anonymous 2012-12-12 2:50

>>35
You are a fucking idiot.

Name: Anonymous 2012-12-12 3:08

>>35
CS is actually an applied maths course and inherently has little to do with EE or even computers. It is quite feasible to study CS without ever touching a computer or programming using a programming language.

Name: Anonymous 2012-12-12 3:08

>>36
Fuck you.

Name: Anonymous 2012-12-12 3:39

CS is not heavy in EE.

Game AI and real AI are completely different fields.  They do overlap, but only a little.
