Thinkpad keyboards are very good. I have a SL410 (same keyboard as L520) and is a very good keyboard. A friend spilled a full glass of wine over it 2 months ago, i only had to change the keyboard and the machine survived with no further sequels. The only thing i think is inferior is the keys layout. SL410 and L520 share a "consumer-level" keyboard layout, as opposed to the "pro" layouts of previous thinkpads.
It is a shame because retarded Lenovo designers ditched the old keyboard layouts trying to imitate the hipster Macbook pro, effectively lowering the bar for thinkpads to the "retarded" level
i have the lenovo l520. the only thing i dont like is the lenovo recovery partition a bit confusing and the screen is difficult to see from almost any angle except straight on the rest of it is great. I give the L520 a 7 out of 10 for what it is!

Right now, it is. They've killed the Thinkpad replacing it with hipster shit. Just look at the X1 Carbon. RAM is soldered to the motherboard!!!!

Who cares? Just order the RAM you need and be done with it. What sort of application is going to need more than 8gigs of RAM on an ultrabook?

Why do you answer queries with non-sense? It's a legitimate question that should be easy to answer if it's truly your problem: what sort of application is going to need more than 8gigs of RAM on an ultrabook?

Not everyone likes to throw away their computer if it's possible to upgrade. I've always upgrade my machines when Ram requirements increase over time.
You shouldn't need more than 3 GB of RAM, unless you run shitty resource consuming operating system.

You don't have to throw away a computer even when it's not possible to upgrade when it operates well. Why not use the computer within its capacity? In the past, it made sense to continually upgrade because RAM requirements continually increased while RAM remained expensive. For web browsing, general office duties, and general administration purposes, RAM requirements has peaked.
For specialist applications, there will always be a need for more RAM, but if this is the case, what are you using a notebook computer for? A workstation or a desktop computer can get superior performance at a better price.

I hope you got the IPS display (although I suppose you could upgrade later for 100 bucks or less), well it's a beautiful machine. Nothing comes close to its aesthetics. I got a maxed out w520 too, but the x220 looks sharper.

I have eight. Why? Because I can afford it, that's why. I can by a gig of RAM for every day of the week. Fuck you, poor people.
>>24
You need eight to run X11, a window manager, and a terminal window?

If you get a job you'll probably want to have your own development environment, and for many that means back-end-servers, front-end servers, and probably many more servers for specialized tasks. With 32GB in my thinkpad I can run a dozen servers in vmware and take my work anywhere I please. I need at least 22GB to have a workable system.
>>31
If that's the case, fuck having to do all that with a laptop.

What the fuck man? I thought always thought Emacs using 8megs of memory for a development system was already pushing the boundary of decent resource usage.

I am a minimalist myself, and I know the old saying: "Always be prepared for anything, and everything"
I favorite thing I used my laptop for was for portable Tor Node, USENET node, and IRC server, all the while watching 4 video streams of my hommies hideouts.

our whole development farm fits into 1gb
that's just because we did not picked java or python or other hipster shit.
wait, we do use java for one our service. and it eats up about a half of that gb. >>39
