Window Managers

Name: Anonymous 2012-12-02 21:17

What kind of WM do you use on your Linux-based operating system?

I use AwesomeWM because it's simple in configuration and easy.

Name: Anonymous 2012-12-02 21:19

I use AwesomeWM too, but Lua is fucking shit and my configuration file is a mess. I also wish it were a bit more responsive, since it's a fucking tiling window manager after all.

Name: Anonymous 2012-12-02 22:04

I use scrotwm because other window managers have the crippling weakness of not being written in C.

What about dwm, nigger?

Name: Anonymous 2012-12-02 23:18

None, because I do not use a Linux-based operating system.

I do use dwm on OpenBSD and rio on Plan 9 though.

I use AwesomeWM because it's simple in configuration [...]

I use dwm because I can install it from binary packages and it Just Works without any configuration at all.

Forgetting Oroborus, bitches?

Name: Anonymous 2012-12-02 23:37

When I used Shitnux, I used dwm. It was shit, though.

Name: Anonymous 2012-12-02 23:50

>openbsd
>plan 9

Those aren't functional operating systems and they aren't as easy to hack like linux.

openbsd also is a backdoor

Those aren't functional operating systems

Unfortunately I don't have a LISP Machine.  I do run Emacs though.

openbsd also is a backdoor

I backdoored your mom!

Name: Anonymous 2012-12-03 2:13

I use Openbox, because it's the default on Raspbian.
I'm considering switching to i3, but probably won't have sufficient motivation until I get my Rasberry Pi into a more permanent setup than the current ``borrow the HDMI and ethernet cables from the Xbox when I want to use it'' one.

while window manager itself is awesome it's standart library is really really awful

if you want to look at at least half decent lua code, take a peek inside prosody jabber server.

also, dwm sucks.

Name: Anonymous 2012-12-03 4:35

Haskell XNomads, it is extremely fast and reliable, as reliable or more reliable than Windows and Mac OS X, because it never crashed in all those years and versions.  Very comfortable on both single-monitor setup (my cheapo ``netbook''), two-monitor setup (home desktop), three-monitor setup (work desktop).

The only drawback is that it, like all other WMs minus Openbox, can be slow to respond during heavy IO and processor load, especially in tabbed layouts.  Openbox is the only WM out of dozens I've tried that responds immediately no matter the load.

Name: Anonymous 2012-12-03 5:27

personally i3, but I want to make scwm a dynamic one like i3 and awesomewm. My workplace is the scum, so I only have awesomewm there.

Name: Anonymous 2012-12-03 6:54

scrotwm(they renamed it to spectrwm now) on FreeBSD

I use scrotwm because it's fast, easily modifiable because it's written in good ol' C. And conf file is easy (you don't need to know Haskell like with xmonad)

Name: Anonymous 2012-12-03 7:01

WindowMaker

Name: Anonymous 2012-12-03 7:40

I don't use GNU/Shitux.

I use Mac OS X in my desktop and FreeBSD in my servers. So my ``window managers'' are Aqua and tmux.

You're so edgy!

Name: Anonymous 2012-12-03 8:17

I use KDM because I've grown out of the "tweaking everything is so cool" phase.

Name: Anonymous 2012-12-03 8:18

ScrotumVM?  Nice name

Name: Anonymous 2012-12-03 8:26

I was initially tempted by Xmonad, but felt lied to, it's slogan claimed it was a lightweight wm. Not with a 800MB MENAHASKALL dependency.

Switched to AwesomeWM. Teh win, real the shame configuration isn't in FIOC though. :(

Go back to /g/, please.

Name: Anonymous 2012-12-03 8:41

VTWM, fast and ``hackeable'' as hell and it also have some tiling functionality

Name: Anonymous 2012-12-03 9:13

The only drawback is that it, like all other WMs minus Openbox, can be slow to respond during heavy IO and processor load, especially in tabbed layouts.  Openbox is the only WM out of dozens I've tried that responds immediately no matter the load.

please learn about bfs, bfq and/or ulatencyd+cgroups+cfs and never expierence that again.

Window Managers are for faggots. Discuss shells.

I use ZSH because it's the only one that doesn't suck.

Name: Anonymous 2012-12-03 10:51

>>27
zsh is utter shite for HN/Reddit/Arch Linux/OSX faggots who show off their ``dotfiles'' and ``cool terminal color scheme'' at Github. Use tcsh like real men do.

Name: Anonymous 2012-12-03 10:54

>>28
But I don't like to use obsolete and abandoned software.

Name: Anonymous 2012-12-03 11:11

real men don't care how their terminals look while terminal font is terminus

Name: Anonymous 2012-12-03 11:34

You're a dedicated follower of Fashion. I think you already don't like your zsh that much (/prog/ being more edgy than Reddit.)

Name: Anonymous 2012-12-03 11:35

>>31
Yeah, I follow ``Fashion'' because I use a superior shell.

Name: Anonymous 2012-12-03 11:48

Linux-based operating system
No thanks!

I use FVWM, mostly because I am used to it and have no particular reason to change. I have tried StumpWM once and it was quite nice. I don't know if it's still maintained.

Don't compare apples to oranges.

Name: Anonymous 2012-12-03 12:05

I mostly use tmux since graphics and video render in my framebuffer okay, but if I must use X then I use twm or 9wm.

Name: Anonymous 2012-12-03 12:10

How do you browse the web?

Name: Anonymous 2012-12-03 12:49

>>39
I fetch web pages from other sites by sending mail to a program (see git://git.gnu.org/womb/hacks.git) that fetches them, much like wget, and then mails them back to me.

It can display images, but I have that turned off. If I need them, I download them and view them with zgv.

I use windows 8 you fucking faggot geeks. Youd better find a woman and stop jacking off to some retarded geeky window managers. Get a superior OS, get W8, faggots.

Almost enough to take up half as much RAM as one bash instance?

Name: Anonymous 2012-12-03 23:23

None? I don't even have dash installed.

Don't change these.
