Sure the Iphone is worse, but by that argument murder is A-OK because it's not as bad as the Holocaust.
HP WeeaboOS and Mozilla Butt2Gecko are at least somewhat reasonable.
Mobile devices as a whole should be avoided for the time being, because they all use disgusting ARM shit that requires horrifying binary blobs. Linux is the Windows of mobile devices.

The problem with Java is that Oracle is no longer supporting its development but only doing minor upgrades. If the Dalvik VM were to become natively supported by Java as well as languages like Scala and Clojure becoming supported languages, then I think Java could become a major player again.

what would save Android is if development was done with Scala and Clojure. Java is a very confining language because it forces everything into classes. Scala and Clojure represent the modern way of Java programming and they should really replace Java in everything accept enterprise programming.

Android is shit and still lags in 2012, try the Nexus 10 if you don't believe me. Google can't make an OS with proper UI graphics acceleration: Chrome OS, Android... All shit, all drop frames at fundamental things like scrolling.
