Any desktops/laptops/motherboards/SoCs that do not require closed-source firmware blobs out there?

I think the point here is less about free vs non-free and more about easy-to-audit vs hard-to-audit. A typical x86 700K BIOS will be a lot harder to audit than, say, the tiny 32K bootloader ROM in one of those ARM toy boards.
