Ruby is murderer

Why can such a low-level language be so badly slow? I can't comprehend it

I tried reading this. I sincerely tried. But here on the first page, I gave up. Why do people have to write like this? Don't authors realize you can just write something without like, resorting to colloquialisms and so many zany gags you could balance a hamster on them?

That and the fact that Rails is mostly documented in screencasts (and fucking http://railsforzombies.org/) is why I gave up on Ruby entirely. The community is worse than useless, and it makes it nigh impossible to get anything done.
And that's a damn shame, because it's actually a pretty okay language.
