So this basically has everything most C programmers implement themselves in a buggy, ad-hoc, and informally specified manner. Why isn't it in more popular usage?
It should be de facto standard: Don't re-write what's already in glib!

Slowest IO library in the world. Mostly terrible implementations. Having actually read a lot of the source, I'm surprised it isn't slower.
