Without realizing it, you would have just stopped at cars, but the latter was the intent, and the result. Just like the quote goes,
"The law, in its majestic equality, forbids the rich and the poor alike to sleep under bridges, to beg in the streets, and to steal bread."
Whatever-blindness doesn't exist but in the minds of a few, and then it isn't possessed but by a fraction of them, and you can't just will into existence without actively acting against whatever-discrimination.
