As a female studying engineering, this article seems a little ridiculous. I’m sure these girls had the best of intentions, but when they say things like “We want to marry life and love and laughter with the most amazing technologies of our time…” I can’t take them seriously. They are only continuing the stereotype that females do not belong in STEM industries. I strive to be a colleague and an equal- not a “femgineer” who thinks she can out think her male counterparts because she played with barbies in elementary school. Yes- we do need more women in math and science. No- we do not need special treatment. What we need is to remove the misconception that math and science are for men. A love of math and science does not make me masculine, it makes me a nerd and I embrace that.

Now that's actually a reasonable response on that from a lady. The problem I normally have with people talking about this is they really want to end a gender bias one way by just flipping it around. Such as trying to get more women into science as equals while trying to get some sort of ``special status'' at the same time.

Now that is actually sexist.  The reason why males are sometimes perceived (by some) as superior in maths/science fields is because society keeps telling girls that they're not supposed to be good at maths/science, so they end up not being good at it (yes, this is an actual psychological effect, and it has been tested and confirmed).  Gender considered harmful.

Never saw or heard anybody actually say anything about how girls suck at programming, other than on various forums for misogynic nerds.  Studied software engineering at a university (free in my country).  We had plenty of girls, about 30% of students.  Most of them had decent grades because of attendance, but all of them sucked at actual creative programming.  Two years later, none of them works as a programmer, some are testers/QA, others have moved to entirely other fields.
