I tried to find reasons for why one would prefer to use this buggy piece of shit over MySQL, and my list still has only the first entry - being forced to do so on gunpoint.

I looked at it for a while one day and couldn't figure out why either.

If it can't do adhoc queries nicely, the it's shit. Unless it's Redis. Redis is alright in my book.

MongoDB is shit and MySQL is shit.

Use PostgreSQL and Riak for business.
Use SQLite and CouchDB for play.

Redis is fine as a better memcached.

Just use manardb.

You could probably implement your own mongodb system by writing json documents to a ramfs and querying with jgrep. It's okay for prototyping a toy blog system but serious engineers who care about durability shouldn't touch it.

No one sane is using mongo as a replacement for memcached.  Redis is more or less comparable to memcached, but that's it.  All three are distinct systems with some (but not all) overlapping areas of applicability.

/prog/ should implement its own NoSQL.
We can fork some textboard and make it into a document database.
The document can be structured with BBcode.

Wow, I had never looked at MongoDB before, but I looked at the SQL vs. Mongo syntax comparisons page. Holy suss, mongo's syntax reads like shit compared.. it honestly could be used as an ad for why SQL is actually better than something like Mongo.
