I tried to find reasons for why one would prefer to use this buggy piece of shit over MySQL, and my list still has only the first entry - being forced to do so on gunpoint.
You could probably implement your own mongodb system by writing json documents to a ramfs and querying with jgrep. It's okay for prototyping a toy blog system but serious engineers who care about durability shouldn't touch it.

No one sane is using mongo as a replacement for memcached. Redis is more or less comparable to memcached, but that's it. All three are distinct systems with some (but not all) overlapping areas of applicability.
