startup woes

Name: Anonymous 2012-09-15 7:29

I just started up a new website. I need alpha testers to work out the kinks, but it's so shitty now that I'm ashamed to ask anyone to test it. What should I do?

I understand.
Just post the URL. I'll alpha test. If it's really totally shitty, I'll just shut up and do something else.

go ahead and post it, Ive seen a lot of startup websites made by professional web developers that are unbelievably bad, like they look like a project done for a junior college web programming class. so just post it

It's really shit, I'm going to wait until the beta to not embarrass myself to /prog/. Not only because of the poor implementation I have so far, but also because it's a fashion social network.

I had it so much better working with neural networks in the university lab...

fashion social network
what

Name: Anonymous 2012-09-16 20:18

this isn't another pinterest clone, is it?

go on craigslist, odesk, elance, etc. and hire someone to do it for less than minimum wage.

I now know whatever ``social fashion site'' makes the Web2.0 news in the next while was developed by a /prog/rider.

It's more like pinterest meets fitocracy and then has and illegitimate child from lookbook behind his back. It's all the usual social media crap with leveling and points thrown around.

You don't seem to enjoy what you're doing and take little pride in it. So why do you continue?

This may surprise you, but OP is in fact the labia cleaver.

'startup' is this year's 'sustainability'.

Well, long story. I basically have to for now, so that I can do the stuff I like later. Anyway I found a much less shittier template that will hopefully be less embarrassing to present to anonymous people later on.

Good luck to you, I guess. A friend and I tried some childish stratagem of a business by doing shit we despised for people we despised in really complicated way, so that we may do something more amenable later, for almost a year, working like crazy only to get burned up. Our plan was really overcomplicated and stupid, though.

Your plan may actually get you money, but it'd healthier in the long run to find something which you'd actually like to do. If there's no such thing, you have more serious problems in your hands.

What will happen when you have to start hiring and managing people so that this thing you hate may grow? When you have to whore yourself out so that it may get some promotion somewhere?  It's a business in the end, you know? Ask yourself if you'll really throw it all away because it had little inertia in the beginning. You probably won't, or will just have to face that all the previous work was just a waste.

It just won't work if you don't like it, and you won't get much from your efforts in the end like that.

Or hey, maybe not! Please tell us and link to this thread if you make it in the end, really!

Don't change these.
