most programmers are intellectually lazy, and do not learn anything outside of school, so picking something up like obj-c or ruby that isn't usually taught in normal curriculum can give you bargaining power over the unwashed masses.
but to be honest, this is the wrong way to think. Our industry rewards skill and focus above all else.

but working for finance, even if it for the higher salary is a waste. finance don't help the society at all. i mean, is just work for gathering money, with no real production at all.
Programming in general does not make much money. The people in software who make the most are those in management. So look for a way to get in management as fast as possible; most of them are ex-code monkeys.
