I've just bought this handy 16 inches 9 Pin Serial Male to 10 Pin Motherboard Header Slot Plate: http://www.amazon.com/StarTech-com-Serial-Motherboard-Header-PLATE9M16/dp/B001Y1F0HW/ref=sr_1_9?ie=UTF8&qid=1346681808&sr=8-9&keywords=db9+idc+10

Enjoying a Serial port without using a PCI slot was really worth the $0.20. The cable is long enough for my weird motherboard layout (the IDC 10 connector is to be found next to the RAM slots). I will probably mod my case to have the Serial port on the front panel.
