On Microsoft and Windows

Name: Anonymous 2012-07-31 8:08

Don't get me wrong. I don't 'like' Windows. In fact, I'd actually be totally fine with living in a world where Windows never existed and Microsoft had died out with the end of MS-DOS. But I really don't get why people bash it so much. I mean, it's pretty well documented, and they've got pretty solid APIs for doing just about anything. What's everyone's goddamn problem?

Its just freetards hating mostly. But there are lots and lost of legit reasons why windows and MS is dog shit.

I've encountered a lot of plain wrong documentation over the years, and Microsoft does keep things under wraps and use it themselves.

Microsoft's current API (for any API) is always a wrapper atop a wrapper atop the win32 API, which is an extremely outdated and shitty API. It's so bad it rivals X11.

We all know a lot of arguments about MS is just hate, but...
Have you ever used anything before C# and .NET? Like Windows 9x, Outlook and Office < 2000, Win32 API, MFC and Visual C++ extensions?

They still do a lot of crap, but at least they've brought the NT kernel to userland, replaced C++ with a much better C#, and released a lot of goods with theirs .NET, WPF and XNA.

replaced C++ with a much better C#
Actually they replaced C++ with C++/CLI and VB with C#.

There's nothing wrong with Windows or Microsoft. It's just /g/ kiddies who just discovered what Linux is. We all go through that phase.

It's closed source, therefore cannot be trusted.

Windows prior to NT was a piece of shit. It's better now but people haven't yet realised it.
There are a few things GNU/Linux could learn from Windows, but they will never be accepted since ``hurr durr window$ is closed shit''. Example: a stable kernel driver interface.

Example: a stable kernel driver interface.
Why?  To ease the task of closed source driver distributors?  Fuck off, retard.

No, to stop forcing open-source driver distributors to keep changing their drivers all the time to support hardware that doesn't change.

Don't change these.
