What does /prog/ think about Vala?

For me it looks like an attempt to vender lock developers to use nothing but Gnome: if my C++ app is written in c++ and uses Qt to full extent, it's bitch to rewrite it to use e.g. enlightment, but it's still possible. With Vala - no such luck.

Entire application must be rewritten.

I want a UI to be my bitch, not to be a bitch of UI lib.

It compiles to C, which is undefined shit.

I don't think you've ever written a GUI ``app'' in your life.

Vala supports bindings to things that have an actual ABI. Qt doesn't work for shit with anything, because it's written in Moc/C++ which is, despite how it sounds impossible, worse than normal C++. Writings bindings for C++ libs is next to impossible, which is why it's a miracle of godly proportions that they have a python binding. This is not the fault of Vala.

Vala is shit for a host of reasons, but inter-language bindings certainly isn't one of them.

I thought Vala would be good but then I started writing in it and it was impossible to debug the shitty output it creates. Qt is awful too. I'd rather use MFC than that shit.

Don't change these.
