I think there are going to be a lot of compiled garbage collected languages coming out, so far D and Go have a head start. There is also Cyclone, BitC and Clay. I think Go will attract more ex-C programmers and D will attract more ex-C++ programmers. I really dont see how you can improve on D, it has just about every modern feature you can think of. Once D is deemed stable it will really start to take over.
