Dynamic 404.php

I want to have a dynamic 404 page for my site, but I don't know anything about PHP (or programming in general). And I'm using a PHP content management system. What should I do?

Is it bad practice to just use search engines to look up whatever types of scripts I want to use on my site? I just "borrow" stuff other people have made which fits my needs. It works well for me, but maybe it's bad practice.

The point is that I've already found a solution which I can ``borrow'' get mad about my use of faggot quotes, ``faggot'', but is that considered bad practice? To use someone else's work rather than writing something yourself. I mean, the person doesn't care if I use it, but aside from that, I'm just wondering if, on principle, what I'm doing is bad.
