Perl runs slower than everyone of those languages.
Unicode support is overrated, ASCII and learning English is what the world needs, unicode is forcing unelegant and bloated design for every app. String functions for ASCII are simple,fast and clear.

Go Figure! Of all the languages I played around with for this talk, Go was hands down the easiest — and possibly the most pleasurable — to use UTF‐8 with.
The guys that invented Go, invented UTF-8. go figure. IHBT.
Unicode does have some stupid issues such as latin ligatures being left as an exercise to the renderer1 but it's still the Least Wrong Thing.
What I'm more worried about is programmers choosing inappropriate encodings. Too often are ASCII text encoded as UCS-2 or CJK text encoded as UTF-8. Worse, some just pretend that code points over 65535 don't exist!
