Do people really use (as in extensively use or solely use) Notepad to professionally write programs? Am I missing something? Is this the actual path to enlightenment?

I use Notepad exclusively for programming and text editing. Of course, it's not natively available on linux, but I use wine.

yeah i remember when I marked up websites on notepad - was kind of like learning to touchtype by replacing all your keyboard keys with blank ones (though I've never tried the latter, although it would seem like a good idea).

Oh and then I wrote programs in qbasic in notepad back in highschool to get the sens of awesomeness when they ran in less than a couple of tries.

Though no syntax highlighting is rather inconvinient, but I guess its like spellcheck, if you are by nature a writer - then why the fuck would you need it. (except that the book will go into print with a couple of typos, while tearing your hir out over a missed syntactic seperator somewhere within the body of anything longer than 300 rows is rather pointless)

P.S. IHBT

More important than the editor is a good programming font. I've been using http://www.dafont.com/curly-coryphaeus.font for years.
