the complexity of plot in most anime is extraordinary
pfft hahahhaha
If I had to link "hackers" and anime in any way, it would be around the idea that "hackers" are likely to be more used to enjoying things that their peers don't find acceptable ("you like this stuff?"). It seems reasonable that someone who freely admits that they enjoy playing with computers would similarly not feel the need to deny their enjoyment of "childish" things like cartoons.
Of course, while this may provide some evidence to a possible link between enjoying programming and enjoying Adventure Time, it doesn't explain a link between enjoying programming and enjoying glorified cartoon child pornography.
If I had to link that to programming, it would be that many programmers were ostracized around their transition to adolescence, and the desire to be a child amongst children manifested itself as pedophilia.
On a side note, did anything worth watching come out in the last year or so? I mostly watch 80s shows these days; in most media, I prefer to stick to the older stuff, since you generally only hear about things that stood the test of time that way.

If you're not interested in moe anime, then you're not likely to enjoy any of the recent publications. They're mostly moeblob otaku service shows.
I once tried watching anime, I think it was called ghost in a shell, and it was terrible!
Some half naked, cyborg female police officer was jumping around with big gun and killing some folks who I was told to believe were evil. I thought her garments were a very poor fit for her profession and overall it was very confusing.
Needless to say, I wasn't able to continue watching this cacophony of almost naked robotic female bodies and lack of logic and coherency.

don't watch anime. anime causes autism.
i'm serious. you start repeating the lines in your head and it conflicts with your english.
read books. occasionally watch cultuled tv shows like madmen if you must.
but anime contributes to the decay of speaking skills of programmers. and then you talk to a girl for the first time in months and stutter and then you get emabrassed and you both think youre retarded and then you feel even more shit and become more isolated and watch more anime and then you die without ever having your dick sucked, the best feeling in the world, better than writing the perfect code to solve the most important problem that will gain you the respect of all hackerdom. when she sucks that semen right out of your cock, its better than linus torvalds patting you on the back and saying good job son, i wish you were my son, i wish i was your son, because i have an incest fetish

"Although not a theme per se, the complexity of plot in most anime is extraordinary. It demands the type of
analysis that hackers naturally apply to everything. Anime often puts the viewer into a situation, and then
provides small clues about the history and characters involved. It’s a lot like a logical puzzle or intellectual
game of the type that stimulates hackers.
Character depth is also an important element of anime. Anime fans differentiate anime characters from
the typical “good guy/bad guy” classifications. The good guys are not always good, and the bad guys are
not necessarily bad. This is very much in contradiction to Lisa Nakamura’s notion of “identity tourism”[10].
Only an extremely shallow survey of anime would give the impression that all the male characters are
warrior samurai types and all the female characters are geisha. Anime fans are intrigued by the depth of
the characters; often the depth is revealed in much the same way as the plot — through small clues spread
throughout the story."
all bullshit, all anime has shit stories and even shitier character development, the characters are so generic they have those terms tsun tsun and dere and so on, most anime is really manchildren trash

probably because in the past you needed to somewhat tech savy to get your hands on some anime, and that recent 10bit crap did not help. you become tech literate to watch your chinese cartoons, and some keep going.
that, or naruto is an astounding ASM textbook.

for the most part, no
maybe RahXephon (the Synecdoche New York of Animu (e.g. the final boss of the medium) albeit not as depressing and, at times, ridiculously clumsy!)
and Nisemonogatari - for some aesthetics for aesthetics sake, even though you will have to endure some hardcore retarded fanservice or whatever they though that was...
