Programming starters guide

Hey /prog/

I want to try again at programming.

I started 1.5 years ago with alice (lol alice) in some highschool course I took, while the class was largely a waste of time, it did teach me the basics of programming.

With this knowledge I moved onto Java using some textbook .pdf I was recommended here. I caught on pretty fast and was able to write some simple programs that didn't really have any application unless you needed a guy to write you a program that could add 2 variables. I got about halfway through the book before I gave up.

Anyway, I want to try again and was wondering, should I start with Java since I have a little experience with it, or should I start with something else?

Also, if you can, provide me with the learning materials I'll need to get going.

Thanks

My first response was "Alice, the chatbot?" and then I looked up the "Alice" that you probably meant.

If you `gave up', you're clearly too uninterested and unmotivated to make it anywhere.

Read SICP

I like Alice Margatroid in the PC98 games more than the Windows games. I prefer the sexy loli body and more friendly personality.

Given the choice, loli Alice is probably the Touhou I would most like to have sex with, with Cirno and Flandre in a close second place tie (or draw, from their perspective).

Which Touhou would you have sex with OP?

Well the reason I gave up was because it was making me write programs to do advanced math I didn't understand.

Also, thanks for the SICP recommendation.

Learn BBCode. It's the most useful for shitposting, and you can shit like this:

Have you read a single thread on this board?

Well the first thread I saw was that, "I just broke up with my gf" one, I merely assumed it was a random troll, how wrong I was.

I vaguely remember you guys being helpful a year ago though...

The board was better a week ago, then it got even worse. We got attacked by about 5 spambots at once.

Then don't try to read SICP right now. A fun book teaching you the basics of programming is what you're looking for. Find one of those books making you build small games (text games or puzzles, not 3D).

Don't change these.
